First Grade Spelling Pattern Packets

The packets below are categorized by spelling patterns we teach in First-Grade. These are created by our First- Grade Collegiate Leaders. Enjoy!

Initial Consonants

The packets below provide activities that include writing the first consonant in a word.

Short Vowels

The packets below provide activities that include writing the vowel (short vowel sound) that appears in words.

Final Consonants

The packets below provide activities that include writing the final consonant in words.

Digraphs

A digraph is when two consonants come together to make a new sound! /sh/ , /ch/ , /th/ , and /wh/. The packets below provide activities that include writing the digraph at the beginning or the end of words.

Blends

A blend is when two consonants come together to make a smooth sound! The packets below provide activities that include writing the blends at the beginning of words.

VCe Syllable

Also known as the "Common Long Vowel" pattern. The Vce syllable is when the vowel is followed by a consonant and silent-e and the vowel makes it's long sound!
